Award winning Storytelling
WRITING/DIRECTING/PRODUCING
IMAGINATION IN ACTION
From the early days of his work, that's an actor, working on set's - Bowen was always fascinated with the storytelling process, how all these different departments and people came together to tell stories - which is why, instead of sitting in his trailer between shots, he was always on-set talking to departments - Learning how to craft a filmmaking was done. Having a big imagination is a job requirement as an actor but early on, discovered his imagination was filled with characters and stories he wanted to tell. Following those instincts, he began writing screenplaysat 19 - and by age 26 - found himself on-set, writing, directing and acting in his first independent feature, a haunting portrait of American youth in the mid 90s, titled ALONG THE WAY. Bowen has often said, it was on-set during that production, that he truly felt like he was home... And filmmaking was his future. That feeling was echoed by critics, audiences and industry alike when his wildly popular, sci-fi, action-adventure short film, The 716th - made its world premiere at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival - then went on to a staggeringly successful run on Prime Video. Made with a budget of only 10K, Bowen produced a short of remarkable scope - not on displaying his skill as a writer, director and editor, but as a unique and exciting new voice in cinema. While acting has kept Bowen busy, he's spent the last several years plotting his next steps as a filmmaker - writing seven full-length feature screenplay’s and building an IP of over 18 film and television projects to date. Bowen is set to direct his next full-length feature in the fall of 2025, and launching a television series based off The 716th (with producing partner Jon Alvord and executive producers Dean Devlin and John Rodgers). 2025 will also see the release of his love letter to Generation X, Along The Way: The Director's Cut . Digitally remastered from its original 35mm negative and featuring a completely “new” edit by Bowen, the film represents the definitive version of his award-winning feature debut.
“There’s no denial that The 716th is ambitious in what it wants and this short film offers a lot of sci-fi fun! You can thank a fun screenplay by Andrew Bowen for this! Bowen makes his mark as a filmmaker and has a bright future ahead of him!”

“I am a huge fan of Andrew Bowen’s The 716th. A glorious science fiction short, it is a calling card for Bowen’s talent as a filmmaker and actor (someone needs to give him a blockbuster to direct).”
–Unseen Films
“AWESOME. Funny in several sequences, sad and touching in others,
and honest all the way through. Andrew Bowen (formerly of the underrated Mad TV) is stunningly strong as Jocko, creating a character that on the surface seems like little more than an affable giant, yet the actor brings a fierce sense of loyalty, a goofy sense of humor, and an overall air of desperate sadness to this role. He delivers easily one of the best ‘unknown’ performances I’ve seen in years.”
-Scott Weinberg, EFILMCRITIC.COM
“Gripping and powerful. Played with sound and fury by its young unknown ensemble of actors, and shot beautifully by its young unknown director (Bowen), who creates a mood that is raw and innocent, yet edgy and sublime. This movie has a halo around it and like its characters is bathed in a “circle of light”, a light which protects it from being fraudulent, ordinary and heartless. When you leave this movie, this movie does not leave you.”
